About the Music and Arts Series
The Music and Arts Series provides exceptional and meaningful performances to enrich the lives of those in the Hamline Midway neighborhood and the greater Twin Cities community. The 2025-26 season is filled with a diverse and exciting lineup of high-quality instrumental, choral, musical theatre, R&B, bluegrass, and dance artists. Full of Myself | Austin Channing Brown

Bestselling author and speaker Austin Channing Brown—whose work explores racial justice, Black dignity, and Black womanhood, and award-winning author and scholar Christina Cleveland—whose work centers Black liberation, sacred Black femininity, and embodied justice, lead an evening of reflection, conversation, and celebration. Harmony for Humanity

Choirs and singers from across Minnesota gather for a special interfaith celebration of music, unity, compassion, and peace. Speakers from diverse faith communities will help create space for reflection and connection across religious traditions. This special event will raise funds for Neighborhood House, a nonprofit serving local immigrants and refugees. A reception will follow the performance. Freewill offering.

Spend an evening with three acclaimed Minnesota authors: award-winning young adult author Heather Bouwman, publisher and suspense novelist Andrew DeYoung, and New York Times bestselling author Kent Krueger. This season, Cantus weaves together three holiday stories with time-honored carols and new classics. Blending narration and song, the program features Margery Williams’ The Velveteen Rabbit and The Polar Express by Chris Van Allsburg alongside an abridged romp through Pyotr Tchaikovsky’s The Nutcracker. Icebound Night

Kyu-Young Kim, violinist and Artistic and Executive Director of the Schubert Club; Pitnarry Shin, cellist with the Minnesota Orchestra; and Sarah Miller, pianist and composer at MacPhail Center for Music, come together for an evocative chamber music recital featuring the world premiere of Miller’s Icebound Night, written in response to the Twin Cities’ resilience in the face of Operation Metro Surge. Medieval Mystery Plays

Experience one of the earliest forms of English theatre through selected plays from the York Cycle, a collection of medieval mystery plays originating in 14th-century England. Brought to life through text, movement, and music, these remarkable works offer a glimpse into the theatrical and spiritual world of medieval England. Preceded by a lecture led by director and dramaturg Carey Morrison. Tickets $20 adults, $5 students, or pay as able.
Beethoven’s Choral Fantasy

Mark the 200th anniversary of Beethoven’s death with a special performance of his monumental Choral Fantasy, featuring concert pianist Richard Tostensen, vocal soloists, Festival Chorus, and orchestra under the direction of David Kozisek. The program also features Brahms’ sublime Schicksalslied and Beethoven’s Piano Sonata No. 31 in Ab major, Op. 110.

The Golden Age - From Harlem to Hollywood

Cross Community Players celebrates the Golden Era of American music that began in the nightclubs of 1920s Harlem and became cultural sensations in the 1930s with the advent of the Hollywood musical. Singers and a jazz trio led by Walter Tambor perform generation-defining music from composers like George Gershwin, Irving Berlin, Cole Porter, and Duke Ellington. Mark Billy, Baritone with Kiegan Ryan, Cello in Recital

Choctaw baritone Mark Billy, a 2025 McKnight Fellowship winner and 2025 Native Performing Arts Fellow appears in recital with Cherokee composer and cellist Kiegan Ryan and pianist Dr. Charles Kemper. The program features a wide-array of repertoire including works by Ryan such as Kanohelvsgi Tsunilosvhi, a cycle of three Cherokee prayer songs originally sung on the Trail of Tears, and the premier of new work for cedar flute and cello. Fourteen Musical Meditations on Jesus’ Passion, based on the grippingly dramatic poetry of Paul Claudel. Marcel Dupré employs twelve melodic themes and six rhythmic motives, each symbolizing a different element of the Fourteen Stations of the Cross.
Featuring acclaimed concert organist Stephen Hamilton with movement by celebrated dancer and choreographer Penelope Freeh. Narrated by NPR host Michael Barone. Freewill donation.
Spring Sing - Mozart’s Missa Brevis K.192

Caritas Vocal Ensemble led by Paolo Debuque joins forces with the Hamline Church Festival Chorus with soloists, orchestra and organ in a special performance of Mozart’s charming Little Credo Mass conducted by David Kozisek. Caritas also presents selections from their spring program The Bountiful Table: Music that makes you go ‘mmm!’ Delicious harmonies, tasty licks, and sweet rhythms inspired by their favorite foods.
