About

Sanctuary for the City

The Celts once described places of sacred encounter as “thin places.” At Hamline Church, this is our vision. Here, the bread is baked, blessed and broken. Whether it is shared at the communion table or as pizza around our community bread oven, it is sacramental, because all of life is holy. We seek to be a Sanctuary for the City of Saint Paul. At Hamline Church:

We encounter the Sacred.

We worship on Sunday so that we can shape our hearts to meet God both in and beyond the church.

About Worship Here >

We come together at the table.

From the Bread Oven to the Altar to the Garden, food and fellowship are sacramental here.

Get Connected >

We love our neighbors.

We serve others in the act of radical neighboring, following the way of Jesus.

How We Serve >

We learn and grow together.

Our children and youth have rich opportunities for spiritual formation, service, and discovery of the sacred.

RADICALLY INCLUSIVE

all are welcome logoWe are members of the Reconciling Ministries Network of The United Methodist Church, which means we declare ourselves to be open and affirming.

We worship an inclusive and loving God, who calls all persons into relationship, both with God and with neighbor. We affirm that all people are created in the image of God and as beloved children of God, all are worthy of God’s love and grace.
We celebrate the gift of diversity reflected in our neighborhood and the world. We welcome the full inclusion of all people in the life and ministries of Hamline Church as we journey toward reconciliation through Christ. We embrace our human family’s diversity of sexual orientation, gender identity, race, ethnicity, age, faith history, economic status, marital status, physical and mental ability, and education.

We proclaim this statement of welcome to all who have known the pain of exclusion or discrimination in the church and society. We invite all to join on a faith journey toward greater love, understanding, and mutual respect.

ALTAR FOR ALL

On Sunday, December 4, 2016 Hamline Church voted unanimously to become an Altar for All Congregation. At Hamline Church, the Christian altar is open to all loving couples, regardless of gender, who can legally marry and who request to make vows in the church, recognizing their belief in the sacred covenant of Christian marriage.  More about this - Weddings at Hamline Church
