Hamline Church is a congregation where children & youth engage in awe, wonder, and service to their neighbors. Children are guided in faith formation through Sunday School and Confirmation, and have ample service opportunities both within Hamline Church and outside our walls. We recognize that children need their own space to learn and grow, but also seek to provide intergenerational opportunities for our kids to grow in relationships with their elders.
Children at Hamline Church build supportive relationships with other Christian kids and adults, learn the stories and themes of the Bible, learn the practices of faith, and explore questions and issues of love, justice, service, community--and much, much more. There is a children's moment during worship, after which children exit for Sunday School. We use the Godly Play curriculum.
Youth at Hamline Church are deeply involved in their church, their community, and their schools. They are musicians and readers, Sunday School assistants and budding theologians, dining hall servers and outreach ministry aficionados. Through formation classes, service, and social activities, there are abundant opportunities for young people to grow their faith and participate in the life of the congregation, both with their peers and inter-generationally.
Family & Intergenerational Opportunities
Worship on Sundays
Children are always welcome in worship. Youth regularly serve as worship leaders. Kids and kids at heart can come forward during worship for a special children's moment before departing for Sunday School. A professionally staffed nursery is available for infants. More >
In late winter, families of all kinds with kids of all ages spend a long weekend in Park Rapids at Northern Pines Camp. There's nothing like camp (even a modern cabin-style camp like this) to bring kids and adults together in a relaxed atmosphere, and recharge the spirit.
Dining Hall at the MN State Fair
Hamline Church has a diner at the State Fair where families can join the work team; proceeds go to support the work of the church and also to Feed My Starving Children. This is an incredible intergenerational tour de force that is also a lot of fun for kids (and adults who like the Fair). More about the Dining Hall >
This is a beautiful expression of being born into God's love. Contact Pastor Mariah if you are interested in having your infant or child baptized at Hamline Church.
Music for Kids
We love to have our kids and youth sing and play music during the worship service. Several times a year, kids of all ages are invited to join a variety of music opportunities, ranging from the Angel Choir in the Christmas Program to a youth band led by a professional bassist and kid favorite Ross Hackenmiller. On the first Sunday of each month during the Sunday School year, we provide nursery care as usual, but invite older kids to enjoy the service with their families, so that they can take communion with their families.
