Making a Difference

Making the world a better place is an important part of the mission of Hamline Church. Members and friends, individual or families can participate in a variety of activities that make a difference on a local, national or international level. Hamline Church participates in regularly-planned activities, as well as helping out at an unexpected moment of crisis. The following list shows some of the projects we routinely participate in.

LOAVES & FISHES
On the 3rd Sunday every other month a crew from Hamline Church prepares food and serves it to 250+ homeless and hungry folks at the Dorothy Day Center in downtown St. Paul. "L&F at Dorothy Day" is a tradition at Hamline Church - we've been doing it for over 20 years.

Paint-a-Thon

- the 2002 project

Occasionally, Hamline Church brings a crew of helpers to work on a painting project, helping a local family that needs assistance. This is a fun way for a group of people to make a big difference in just a few days.

The church's "Paint-a-thon" project for
summer of 2007 and
spring/summer of 2008
was THE CHURCH BUILDING ITSELF
!

Many little projects awaited the attentive hands of volunteers under the guidance of suggestions made by the Hamline Church Board of Trustees. They redecorated the Parlor, carpeted hallways, and painted offices.

"FAITH BUILDERS" HELPED BUILD A LOCAL HOUSE
A local group of churches banded together through Habitat for Humanity as a 'Faith Builders' group, working together to build a home. Hamline volunteers joined in working on the house in St. Paul a few years ago. Many thanks to Bob Sellers and his team!

Food Shelf Collections
Hamline Church members contribute food items to provide food for a local food shelf. Bob and Jacquie Sellers are coordinators.

In addition, Hamline Church participates in the Minnesota FoodShare campaign - a state-wide campaign to fill our local foodshelve under the coordination of Jim Schlaeppi and our Social Justice and Missions team.

Missions
When appropriate opportunities appear, Hamline Church supports mission work to different locales for worthwhile projects.
