Hamline Church

Baptisms

We are members of the Reconciling Ministries Network of The United Methodist Church, which means we declare ourselves to be open and affirming. We worship an inclusive and loving God, who calls all persons into relationship, both with God and with neighbor. We affirm that all people are created in the image of God and as beloved children of God, all are worthy of God’s love and grace. We celebrate the gift of diversity reflected in our neighborhood and the world. We welcome the full inclusion of all people in the life and ministries of Hamline Church as we journey toward reconciliation through Christ. We embrace our human family’s diversity of sexual orientation, gender identity, race, ethnicity, age, faith history, economic status, marital status, physical and mental ability, and education.

We proclaim this statement of welcome to all who have known the pain of exclusion or discrimination in the church and society. We invite all to join on a faith journey toward greater love, understanding, and mutual respect.

Annual Conference 2019

Hamline Church is a founding member of Minnesota Methodists, a group committed for the full inclusion of LGBTQ+ individuals in the church and the centering of all marginalized voices. This year, two pieces of legislation were submitted to the Minnesota Annual Conference of the United Methodists Church. The first of these was a vision statement calling for an expression of Methodism "rooted in Jesus, grounded in Wesleyan theology, inclusive of all persons and engaged in the work of justice and reconciliation." The second is a rejection of the actions taken by the 2019 Special Session of the General Conference, a recognition of the harm caused, and a covenant not to perpetuate that harm in any more. Both pieces were supported without amendment, receiving 85% and 80% of votes respectfully.
