Psalm
63
O God, you are my God,
I
seek you, my soul thirsts for you; my flesh faints for you,
as in a dry and weary land.
So I have looked upon you in the
sanctuary, beholding your power
and glory.
Because your steadfast love is better
than life, my lips will praise you.
So I will bless you as long as I live;
I will lift up my hands and call
on
your name.
My soul is satisfied as with a rich
feast, and my mouth praises you with
joyful
lips
for you have been my help, and in
the shadow of your wings I sing for joy.
*OPENING
PRAYER
Help us, O God, because the nations still rage in their folly, the peoples
eyes
are blind, and the liberator has become the oppressor. Convert those who
govern
us from the wrong uses of power, the small and large tyrannies, and the
practice
of the big lie. Cause us to feel in our bones the sorrows of the whole
bent
world, and persuade us to the healing. As you give us yourself in this
bread
of
hope, this cup of mercy, so may we give ourselves to those who are without
hope,
to those who cry mercy; through Christ our Lord. Amen.

O
God, you are my God; eagerly I seek you;
my

as
in a barren and dry land where there is no water.
Therefore
I have gazed upon you in your holy place,
that
I might behold your power and your glory.

my
lips shall give you praise.

My
soul is content, as with marrow and fatness,

When
I remember you upon my bed,

Holy
God, we offer these gifts in gratitude for the blessings you bestow
upon
us. Despite our unfruitful ways, we have endless opportunities to reflect
your
glory in our lives. We turn our hearts and minds to the commitment that
you
have made to us through your son Jesus Christ. May these gifts become
symbolic
of our desire to renew our covenant relationship with you, O Lord,

Thanks
to the Girl Scouts who are our greeters this morning. Today is the beginning
of Girl Scout Week which celebrates 98 years of the Girl Scout
Movement and
commemorates March 12, 1912 when Juliette Gordon Low registered
the first 18
members in Savannah, GA.
GUESTS AND VISITORS
Welcome to Hamline Church. You are a special part of our worship experience. An
elevator is located in the Commons Area to the west of
the sanctuary. It has stops at
the sanctuary level, south entrance and lower level.
Gliders and rocking chairs are
available for your convenience as you enter the
sanctuary from the Commons.
Hearing
devices are available from the ushers.
TO OUR FREQUENT VISITORS
Your presence in our midst enhances the worship
experience of us all. If you would
like to learn more about the Hamline Church community
or are considering becoming
a member, we invite you to a gathering in the Pastors
office at 10:45 am, the first
Sunday of each month with our pastor, Rev. Pat Hinker,
and membership coordinator,
Amy Schultz.
We typically receive members the last Sunday of every month. For
more information, please contact Pastor Pat at: phinker@hamlinechurch.org.
CHILD CARE
Parents are encouraged to bring children of all ages
to worship. Special
"companion
bears" and activity bags for children are
available at the entrances to the sanctuary. A
well-equipped, unstaffed nursery is available on
Sunday mornings for children from
infant – 18 mos. The Toddler Room (staffed) is located on the lower level of
the
education building in Room 5 and accommodates children
18 months through 3 years
old.
Ushers will direct you to either room.
PLEASE NOTE:
If you have an announcement to make on Sunday morning,
please check with the pastor
before the service begins. Pastor Pat is also happy to make a short announcement if you
write it out on a card and give it to her before the
service begins. Unless the
announcement
is time-sensitive, we will not have announcements on
Communion Sunday, the first Sunday
of each month.
If you are in the hospital, or wish a visit for any reason, please
contact
the church office.
PARENTS OF SUNDAY SCHOOL STUDENTS are asked to pick up their toddlers
from room #5, preschoolers/kindergarteners from room
#3, 1-3rd graders from the Parlor
Kitchen and 4-6th graders from the computer
room. The YOUTH GROUP will meet
today at 10:45 in the youth room and then go to brunch
at Hamline University. After
brunch we will be heading out to the History Center to
see the exhibit: Minnesotas
Greatest Generation: The Depression, The War, The
Boom. Cost for the day is be
$13.50.
Please join us if you are in grades 7-12th.
GETTING TO KNOW THE FAMILY
There will be many ways for the congregations of
Church of the Good Shepherd and
Hamline Church to get to know each other in the coming
months as we plan joint
activities and work together on the details needed for
our merger. As those events are
planned, you are invited to take an opportunity to
worship with COGS at one of its
worship services in the coming months. The church is located just west of the
intersection
of Fairview and Marshall with worship at 10:30. The creation of any new family
involves a blending of traditions and the creation of
new ones. Worship is an important
part of those traditions. We hope that you will take the time to get to know COGS
worship traditions as a part of our blending and
creating new traditions.
SILENT AUCTION – A GREAT SUCCESS
Special thanks to the families, area businesses, and
other volunteers who made our
auction possible. There were over 70 items donated. Thank you to everyone who made
a bid or became the top bidder. The continued support of our own church
family is
amazing and makes events like the auction fun. With everyones support, our auction
was successful.
Please show your gratitude also by patronizing our local businesses
that made donations. More details will be in the April newsletter.
SPRING RUMMAGE SALE
Mark your calendars! The All-Church Spring Rummage Sale is scheduled for
Friday, May 14 through Sunday May 16. We will be collecting donations for the
sale
beginning immediately. If you have an item or items that can be easily carried,
simply bring them to the church. For larger, difficult to move items,
contact Kent
Krueger to arrange for pickup.
We will accept slightly used CLEAN clothing, furniture
in good condition (no bed
mattresses), books, toys, games, tools, or almost
anything else that you believe might
be of value as a recycled good. Electronics must be in excellent
working condition –
NO TELEVISIONS please! Because all donation items will be stored elsewhere until
the sale, please refrain for the moment from bringing
anything that might be damaged by

FORUM - MARCH 21 "Volunteering at the UMCOR Depot of Hope "
Barb

and describe their
experiences
from three short term mission trips to this UMCOR Depot in
Baldwin,

CENTERING PRAYER AT HAMLINE UMC
Please join the Centering Prayer team
from Church of the Good Shepherd at 6:00 pm
on Thursdays this Lent. We will be meeting in the
Green Room at Hamline UMC.
Centering Prayer is a method of silent prayer that
prepares us to experience Gods
presence within us. A brief instruction will be
followed by the reading of a Psalm,
the ringing of a bell and 20 minutes of silence. We
end with a short reading. All
experience levels from both congregations are welcome.
LENTEN STUDY: FACING OUR FEARS
At times our fears seem to run our lives. Over and
over in the scripture, God tells
us not to be afraid, that we are not alone. Yet, when
we are faced with a crisis or
the unknown, these words alone can bring little
comfort. Join us this Lenten
season as we face our fears together, as a community
of faith. We will eat a meal,
share our fears and our wisdom and find comfort in
these trying times.
Sessions will be on Thursday evenings, beginning at
6:30 with supper and
ending at 8:30. We will be meeting at Hamline UMC. Each session is a separate
discussion. Feel free to join: come to as many or as
few as you like. If you are
interested, you can join us beforehand at Centering
Prayer in the Hamline Green Room.
Continuing Dates and Topics are:
March 11
- Change in the Church - Merger is
only one of the changes Churches
go through. How do we hold on to what we love and
honor our past, yet still move
with the times?
March 18
- Prayer - Prayer is the
foundation of the Christian faith, yet many people
are uncomfortable praying. Why do we fear entering
into conversation with the
Divine? How can we overcome our fear to find a deeper
relationship with God?
March 25 -
Silence - Contemplative or Centering
Prayer can be one of the most
profound prayer experiences. It can also be the most
frightening. Why do we fear
sitting in silence? What will we find in there when we do?

PENTECOST
SUNDAY, May 23, 2010
Sunday,
May 23rd will be a special Sunday in the life of our new
congregation. The
two
congregations will worship together for the
first time, Bishop Sally Dyck will be
preaching,
and the highlight of the worship service will be the confirmation of our
first
joint Confirmation Class. The joint Archives and
Worship teams are asking that
if
you have pictures of former confirmation classes to share, they would like to
display
them
on Sunday, May 23, as a part of the celebration of our
joint heritage. Please
write
your name and phone number on the back of the picture (in pencil, so it doesnt
damage
the print), and bring it to either church office. The picture will be
copied and
returned
to you.

FOOD

Good News! Our church earned $300 for being a taste test site. We are hoping to have
more tests done at our church so sign up to become a
taste tester. If you qualify and
participate
in a taste test, our church will receive $10 and you
will receive between $25 - $175, depending
on time involved and the level of commitment. This money you may use as you
wish – treat
yourself to dinner out, pay bills, or even donate it
to our church. To see if you
qualify for
a test, you may be contacted by a "live"
caller who will ask a series of questions, by an
Interactive Voice Response (a recording) that asks
questions, or online through an email
account.
If you don't qualify, no money is received and your name is put back for
future
test possibilities. Tests are done at many locations; some more convenient than
others. If
you have not registered, go to www.fpitesters.com or pick up a form. Be sure to indicate
